The election and founding ceremony of JI’s first Graduate Students’ Union took place in the Chen Rui Qiu Building on June 4, 2012. Attending JI officers included Scott Yang, Academic Affairs Manager, Wu Qi, Students’ Affair Manager, Anita Li, Graduate Students Counselor, Candice Liu, Career Guidance Student Counselor, and Michael Chen, Communist Youth League Secretary.

Scott Yang first congratulated the students for the occasion. He pointed out the necessities of founding JI’s Graduate Students’ Union, for which he expressed high expectations. He anticipated the organization to be as successful as the Undergraduate Students’ Union in serving the needs of the student body, enhancing the interactions among the students, and improving the quality of the JI graduate school. He also encouraged the graduate students to unite and be proactive in communicating with as well as exerting a positive impact on JI.

Then, eight candidates gave campaign speeches about their ideas and plans for running the Graduate Students’ Union. The attending students and officers cast their ballots and elected the three-member presidium and heads of the departments of academics, career,   liaison, culture and sports.

Liu Duo, member of the presidium, represented the elected officers to express their resolution:  It is a great honor to be elected to lead the Graduate Students’ Union. They will work hard and keep their promises to serve JI’s graduate students.
