Founded in 2006, UM-SJTU Joint Institute has developed tremendously in the past eight years, having won various prestigious awards. The institute has become the “wind vane” of international education reform in China. Looking forward, JI is progressing steadily with full confidence and is striving for bigger accomplishments.
JI boasted her extraordinary model of international education and outstanding student performance through innovative design projects. The amazing design projects grabbed the spotlight of the Expo, and JI booth got most visitors.
On April 12, SJTU’s 118th anniversary as well as JI’s 8th anniversary, JI’s Institute Advancement Office organized a series of alumni activities to commemorate the birthdays and the ground breaking of the new JI building.
April 12th was the 118th anniversary of SJTU as well as JI’s 8th anniversary. To commemorate this significant day, the cornerstone of the new JI Building was laid on the future site near SJTU’s East Gate.
“We feel it is important that the Joint Institute is on the SJTU campus. It demonstrates the commitment that both universities have in this venture. It was also important for us to build a partnership with an established institution in China.”
Mr. Jiang Sixian, the newly appointed SJTU Party Secretary, visited JI on March 25, 2014, to confirm SJTU’s support for the Joint Institute.

The sixth annual SJTU Freshmen Mechanical Innovation Competition, sponsored by Liugong Group, kicked off on March 12.
