讲座摘要

Existing challenges in cancer treatment urge the development of more effective and safe drug delivery paradigms. We have explored a variety of microfabrication processes, such as multi-axial electrospray, multi-axial flow focusing, electrified flow focusing, and interface shearing, to facilitate controlled delivery, sustained release and remote activation of therapeutics. These processes are able to produce micro/nano drug carriers with nearly 100% loading efficiency, uniform size distribution, complex structures, and full protection of bioactivity. The processes are based on the formation of multilayered droplets in a high-voltage electric field or a high-speed liquid/gas flow. With these micro and nanodroplets, we have demonstrated sustained drug release, controlled drug delivery, and combinatory therapy in ex vivo, in vitro and in vivo models.
