讲座摘要

Ultrasonic guided waves have been proved as a powerful diagnostic tool due to their long-distance propagation capability without much energy loss and sensitivity to the incipient stage of structural damages. They have attracted widespread interest within Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) and Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) communities. However, their applications still face many enormous challenges stemming from (1) the multi-modal and dispersive nature of ultrasonic guided waves; (2) the limited travel path of the detected wavefield owing to the structural complexity; (3) the nonlinear ultrasonic guided wave method trapped in their own insurmountable technical barriers. Consequently, the enhancement of the ultrasonic guided wave-based SHM and NDE becomes a core and hot scientific topic. Recently, a growing research interest has been devoted to elastic metamaterials, a family of artificially designed subwavelength-scale structures having demonstrated their superb and powerful modulation capabilities for elastic ultrasonic guided waves. It allows further structural vibration attenuation and wave modulation prowess, showing great potential for SHM and NDE applications. Thus, the goal of the dissertation is to take different routes to improve the SHM and NDE performance by taking full advantages of the novel properties of the elastic metamaterials.

主讲人简介

Yiran Tian received a Bachelor Degree in Material Forming and Control Engineering from Jilin University in 2017. He is currently enrolled in a PhD program at University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute. His research interest includes elastic metamaterials, SHM, and NDE.
