The teaching assistant system is a characteristic of the JI. The teaching assistants play an important role in the teaching process. The 2014 Outstanding Teaching Assistant winners are JI students Yanrong Li, Xianglong Wang, Jiesheng Zhang, and Ming Zhong.

JI is currently undergoing review for ABET accreditation, for which the course review is a requirement. It is also a process for faculty, students, and administration to work together and reach the goal of high-quality engineering education.

Founded in 2006, UM-SJTU Joint Institute has developed tremendously in the past eight years, having won various prestigious awards. The institute has become the “wind vane” of international education reform in China. Looking forward, JI is progressing steadily with full confidence and is striving for bigger accomplishments.

April 12th was the 118th anniversary of SJTU as well as JI’s 8th anniversary. To commemorate this significant day, the cornerstone of the new JI Building was laid on the future site near SJTU’s East Gate.

For 7 years the Yunnan Student Volunteers of the UM-SJTU Joint Institute have been helping the children in the remote villages in Yunnan Province.

Every project demonstrates JI students’ intelligence and creativity. To apply knowledge and solve problems of daily living has been the focus of JI’s education model.
