Three-minute Thesis Competition was held in the Minhang campus on September.Jing Long, a JI Ph.D. student from Prof. Tian Yang’s Nanophotonics Laboratory, won the second prize by her excellent presentation of “Detecting a single molecule within a gold nanoparticle-plane junction.”

JI Receives Jackson and Muriel Lum Endowed Scholarship Fund
On June 28, the Joint Institute received a wonderful gift from Mr. Jackson Lum (林積順) and his wife, Muriel Lum (趙妙霞), who have donated $1,000,000 to the University of Michigan and established the Jackson and Muriel Lum Endowed Scholarship Fund.
JI leads the way in educating socially responsible engineers
On June 14, 2014, JI sophomore Guangyu Zhang presented “Orienting Engineering Ethics in terms of China: Curricula Shortcomings and Case Studies on China,” a paper co-authored with Dr. Rockwell Clancy, at the American Society of Engineering Education 2014 International Forum.
