Intelligent Connected Vehicle (ICV) is a representative interdisciplinary application, including vehicle engineering, artificial intelligence, mechanical system, electronic system, automation and control, communication, etc. It is the key carrier of national strategy of building strength in transportation, meanwhile, it is the strong pillar to support the development of the country. This presentation includes two parts. In the first half, the history of development of ICVs is introduced, from the very early robots built in lab, to the DARPA grand challenge, and then to the current ICVs developed by Tesla, Waymo, etc. In the second half, the key technologies of ICV are presented to show some basic functions of perception, localization, decision-making, and control. In each module, the mechanism and related algorithm are explained briefly. Some examples of our ongoing projects will be introduced as well during this presentation to illustrate the applications of these technologies.
Dr. Hanyang Zhuang is currently an Assistant Research Professor at UM-SJTU Joint Institute, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He collaborates with Prof. Ming Yang and conducts research works related to intelligent connected vehicles and vehicle-infrastructure cooperation. He is acting as principal investigator for several collaborative research projects with Hycan Automotive and CATL. He also serves as a guest editor of Journal of SJTU and reviewers of multiple journals such as IEEE T-ITS, IEEE T-IV, etc. From 2020 to 2022, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher in Prof. Ming Yang’s lab, and received the honor of China Excellent Innovation & Entrepreneurship Postdoc in 2021. Prior to this postdoc experience, he worked in PATAC and Alliance from 2018 to 2020 in the area of intelligent vehicles development and validation. In year 2018 he received his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering supervised by Prof. David Hung from UM-SJTU Joint Institute, where he received his bachelor degree from in 2011.
