Long Bin Building

UM-SJTU Joint Institute officially moved in the Long Bin Building on May 24, 2018. The Long Bin Building is named in honor of Mr. John Wu and Ms. Jane Sun in appreciation of their October 2015 leadership gift to support the development of the University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU Joint Institute). Before achieving success as an investor and entrepreneur, Mr. John Wu attended SJTU in 1985 and graduated from UM in 1989. The Long Bin Building commemorates his parents, Prof. Xilong Wu and Prof. Zhebin Yu, in honor of their lifetime dedication to teaching at SJTU.

The design of the Long Bin Building is rooted in the architecture of the historic Engineering Hall located on the SJTU Xuhui campus, and takes the shape of the Chinese character 回. The upright and elegant features evoke a century-old spirit of pragmatic innovation that is mirrored by SJTU. The foundation stone for the Long Bin Building was laid in April 2014, and construction was completed in December 2017.
