JI doctoral student wins top award at international optoelectronics conference

Jinbin Yang, a doctoral student at the University of Michigan – Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute  (UM–SJTU JI, JI hereafter) supervised by Professor Yaping Dan, received the Optica Student Paper Prize at the 16th Pacific Rim Laser and Optoelectronics Conference held in early August in Incheon, South Korea. His paper titled “Atomic Scale Photomemristors engineered by ion implantation” was selected as the best out of 1,131 submissions, earning him the conference’s only student paper prize. The event attracted 1,504 participants from 43 countries and regions.

Leading combustion symposium accepts paper by JI undergraduate student

Hao Zhang, a senior undergraduate student at the University of Michigan – Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM–SJTU JI, JI hereafter), has achieved a significant academic milestone. His research paper titled “Learning Transient Evolution of Multidimensional Reacting Flows by Multiscale Fourier Neural Operators,” was recently accepted for presentation at the 40th International Symposium on Combustion. Following its presentation, the paper was published in the Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, a leading journal in the field of combustion science. Hao Zhang is the first author of the paper, and JI Associate Professor Dezhi Zhou served as the corresponding author.
