The year 2023 has seen the University of Michigan – Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI, JI hereafter) students standing out in various fields. They soared in the academic halls, fought bravely in the competition arenas, rooted themselves in social practices, and made remarkable achievements. The following are examples of such students who helped in building the reputation of JI as one of the best international engineering institutes in China and the world.

The University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI, JI hereafter) undergraduate student Kantaphat Leelakunwet has been selected as one of the 2023 SJTU Elites for International Students in a grand final appraisal and awarding ceremony held at the SJTU Center for Academic Activities.

The University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI, JI hereafter) 2023 Winter Design Expo opened on December 13 at Long Bin Building, displaying 37 innovative design projects from a number of autumn experimental courses of freshmen and senior students including “Introduction to Engineering”, “System Design and Implementation”， “Design and Manufacturing 3,” “Computer Architecture,” and “Product Design and Manufacturing”.

The University of Michigan – Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI, JI hereafter) Yunnan Volunteer Teaching Team, dedicated to community service in underdeveloped regions of Southwest China’s Yunnan Province, has received the prestigious honor of SJTU’s 2023 Person of the Year.
