Abstract

In recent years, augmented reality (AR) technique has attracted ever-increasing attention, because of the fantastic new experience it provides by superimposing computer-generated information onto the physical world. However, there are still several challenges to overcome before the widespread application of AR could be realized. One of the most critical issues is the mismatch of 3D depth cues, which causes visual fatigue and discomfort after prolonged use. This presentation will focus on solutions to address this problem by using advanced liquid crystals devices.

Biography

Dr. Yan Li received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Zhejiang University, China. In 2012, she received her Ph. D. in Optics from College of Optics and Photonics (CREOL), University of Central Florida, USA. After graduation, she worked for an Augmented Reality company, Magic Leap Inc. as a senior optics engineer. In 2014, she joined Shanghai Jiao Tong University, where she is currently an associate professor in electronic engineering. She is the associate editors of Optics Express and Journal of SID. Her research interests include 3D displays for augmented reality (AR) applications and liquid crystal materials/devices.
