Abstract

To fulfil integration of wireless mesh networking technologies with 5G and beyond networks, it is essential to design scheduling protocols and algorithms in the medium access control layer by taking into account the characteristics of physical layer technologies. This dissertation is dedicated to developing scheduling protocols and algorithms for various mesh networking scenarios in 5G and beyond networks. First, a scheduling protocol is designed for a full-duplex wireless mesh network to exploit concurrent transmission opportunities. Second, an IAB-donor coordinated parallel resource allocation scheme is developed to quickly respond to bursty traffic in sub-6GHz IAB networks in a distributed manner. Third, a hierarchical resource allocation scheme is developed to conduct joint throughput and power optimization for an mmWave IAB mesh network. Finally, a scheduling scheme is designed to support THz mesh networking by circumventing severe path loss in communication links.
