Literary Journalism
Background: During this course, students will travel through urban and remote areas of China, engaging and learning about the practice of travel writing. They will place themselves in the middle of their stories as they ask difficult questions both of themselves and the places that they visit. Students will be asked to read several pieces in advance of the trip, and through daily writing exercises and engaging the local settings, they will uncover truths about life and culture, and with some luck, about themselves as well.
