The Career Division of the JI Students Association organized a field trip to visit Intel Asia Pacific R & D Center located in Zizhu Science and Technology Park on December 7, 2011. Thirty-five students showed up for the event.
Intel’s chief engineer Mr. Wang Young briefed the students on the company’s history and development. Another engineer, Le Yongnian, demonstrated the process of transforming ordinary sand into precious transistors.
The students then visited the Environmental Laboratory where the transistors were tested under various temperature, humidity, and vibration. A technician showed how a product crushed from an impact performed. Students were impressed by the stringent quality control.
The students also toured Intel’s offices and facilities, such as employee fitness center and refreshment room, which made the students envious.
Afterwards, students had an opportunity to participate in a quick mentorship program with Intel’s employees. Five engineers rotated to sit with five groups of students to discuss issues on college learning, career planning, software, hardware, and answer questions. Students were highly engaged in this innovative type of interaction.
JI students had an eye-opening experience from the short tour to Intel. The compact and rich program demonstrated Intel employees’ efficiency. The state-of-the-art office and laboratory showed the foundation of a high-tech company. Students were deeply affected by Intel’s corporate culture and spirit.
