Yujia Li, a first-year undergraduate student from Shanghai Jiao Tong University Global College (SJTUGC, abbreviated as GC), has earned second place in the women’s 420 double-handed dinghy category at the 7th China University Sailing Championship.
Li serves as the trimmer in the competition.
The sailing event, hosted by the China Student Sports Federation (CSSF), was held during October 10-15 in Nanjing, capital of East China’s Jiangsu Province. Delegates from nearly 30 universities attended the competition featuring three classes — FE18r keelboat, 420 double-handed dinghy, and iBoat FLY hydrofoil board.
Participating in her first national sailing championship as a SJTU representative, Li served as the trimmer, responsible for controlling the jib and spinnaker, adjusting sails according to wind direction, and coordinating with the helmsman to maintain boat balance during maneuvers.
Reflecting on the experience, Li shared that sailing requires both physical endurance and a deep understanding of wind, current, and teamwork. “Every movement demands precision and trust between partners,” she said. “Through practice and competition, I learned to read the wind, react quickly, and stay in sync with my teammate. I’m grateful to SJTU and the college for their support, which gave us the opportunity to represent our school on a national stage.”
