The development of human society is highly dependent on energy and resource. The fossil fuel has brought the convenient modern life to everyone but it is unsustainable and also lead to some environmental issue. The solar energy is the most promising solution for sustainable and clean energy, the most efficient way is the photovoltaics. In this seminar, the brief history and development of photovoltaics will be summarized and disused. Recently, perovskite solar cells with the unprecedent efficiency progress have become one of most promising next-generation photovoltaics technologies. We will present our latest progress on this novel, low cost and high efficiency photovoltaics technologies.

Yixin Zhao is a professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He graduated from Shanghai Jiao Tong University with a B.S. and M.S. in Chemistry and received his Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University in 2010. This was followed by postdoctoral research at Penn State University and National Renewable Energy Laboratory. His current research interests focus on perovskite optoelectronics especially perovskite solar cells and electrocatalysis for environmental remediation and resource applications. He had published more than 100 peer reviewer paper in Science, JACS, etc. and had been enlisted in Clarivate Highly Cited Research in 2018-2021. Prof. Zhao is the associate editor for Journal of Energy Chemistry and editorial board of The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters, Science Bulletin, eScience etc.
