Abstract

Structure-property-function relationships are fundamental in science and engineering research. Design, fabrication and control of material structures at all scales of atomic, nano and microscales are significantly important for developing innovative functional materials. As advanced manufacturing techniques develop rapidly, we envision that precision materials, an emerging new class of materials with their structure-property-function relationships precisely designed and controlled, will play a big role in engineering and sciences. In this presentation, Prof. Yang will introduce his recent fundamental study on acoustic precision materials. Precisely structured acoustic materials may exhibit superior properties for sound absorption and modulation. This work will provide a guide for design and fabrication/synthesis of high-performance sound absorbing materials. In addition, Prof. Yang will also introduce his activities in applied research.
