The signing ceremony of the “Shanghai Jiao Tong University Longey Global Leader Scholarship” was held at the University of Michigan- Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI) on the occasion of the 121st anniversary of SJTU on April 8.

A delegation of the Longey Real Estate Group Co., Ltd., led by CEO Bin Li, paid a visit to SJTU and was warmly received by Party Secretary Si-xian Jiang, Deputy Party Secretary Jian Zhu and Vice President Ansheng Zhang. The SJTU leaders expressed deep gratitude for Longey Group’s support on SJTU’s students’ internships and career opportunities in international organizations.

Vice President Ansheng Zhang congratulated on the launch of this significant scholarship. He pointed out that Longey Group’s spirit of “Caring, Growth and Responsibility” is consistent with SJTU’s motto of “Gratitude and Responsibility.” He believes that the scholarship will boost SJTU’s talent training programs and help propel more SJTU students toward the world stages to be the voice of China.

Bin Li, CEO of Longey Group, briefly introduced his company and its talent training plan. “It is an honor and win-win to collaborate with JI, which is well known at home and abroad for its international education model,” remarked Li. “I hope that the launch of this scholarship will keep the momentum to deepen cooperation with SJTU and I welcome SJTU graduates to join the Longey Group.”

On behalf of JI, Dean Peisen Huang thanked Longey Group’s for their strong support for education. “As a successful example of international collaboration, JI has been at the forefront of China’s higher education reform,” said Huang. “JI needs more resources to leap further forward. The generous donation of the Longey Group will inspire the teachers and students to make new contributions to our country.”

Subsequently, Litao Lin, SJTU Director of Student Affairs Office, introduced the newly founded SJTU Student International Organization Development Association. With the mission of “based on SJTU, facing the world, serving the students, connecting with the world,” the organization aims to provide students with internship opportunities in international organizations, to expand students’ horizons and to enhance their ability to participate in global governance. There are currently 75 members, including 31 key officers.

The goal of the SJTU Longey Global Leader Scholarship is to encourage, support and guide the outstanding students of SJTU to actively engage in international affairs activities, especially to intern at the United Nations, the World Health Organization and other international organizations, as well as to participate in international science and technology competitions. Each year 8 to 10 SJTU students will be awarded, of whom more than a third are reserved for JI students.
