On February 22, 2012, a delegation from Beijing Jiao Tong University led by Vice President Feng Chen visited JI. The delegation included Yanping Liu, Dean of the School of Economics and Management; Changchun Li, Director of Academic Affairs Office; Yugong Xu, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange; Bo Qu, Director of the Development Plan Office; Guanyuan Zhao, Associate Director of Human Resources Office; Li Zhang, Associate Dean of the School of Economics and Management and Yaodong Zhou, Associate Professor of the School of Economics and Management. The delegation was warmly received by representatives from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, including Zhongqin Lin, Executive Vice President; Houji Wang, Director of President’s Office; Weiwei Mao, Associate Director of President’s Office; and representatives from JI, including Wangsheng Zhao, Associate Dean; Pam Byrnes, Executive Director; Sherry Yao, Resource Management Manager; and Scott Yang, Academic Affairs Manager.
BJTU Delegation’s first stop was to view a model of the SJTU Minhang campus to appreciate the sheer size of the overall campus and its facilities. Then they arrived at JI to exchange ideas with leaders and professors on the topics of talent cultivation, human resource policy, and institutional mechanism. Associate Dean Zhao gave an introduction of JI. From the exchange, BJTU Delegation learned how the JI ensured the quality of the undergraduate students and how its dual-degree program is fully integrated with University of Michigan. JI shared its international model of talent cultivation, quality control of the graduate students, the hiring and evaluation of faculty and staff, the division of labor and coordination between the administration and the academic management, and the organizations and functions of the faculty committee and board of directors. Later, the delegation visited SJTU’s Achievement Exhibition Center to appreciate what SJTU has accomplished since its establishment.
Beijing Jiao Tong University is a major national university and one important branch of the Jiao Tong University group. It is the cradle of Chinese railroad management and telecommunication education. It is one of the first universities that joined the national “211 Projects”, “985 Projects”, and “Advantage Disciplinary Innovation Platform.”
Associate Dean Zhao gave an introduction of JI
