JI’s 7th Student Congress was held at Yifu Building in the evening of June 8, 2012. Prof. Robert Parker, JI’s Executive Dean, Scott Yang, Academic Affairs Manager, Wu Qi, Students’ Affairs Manager, Michael Chen, Secretary of JI Youth League Committee, and Candice Liu, Career Guidance Student Counselor attended the meeting, as well as students representatives from SJTU’s other schools and departments and close to 200 JI students representatives.
Professor Parker addressed the students, recognizing the importance of the JI Students’ Union and confirming JI’s continued support. He gave out awards to seven students for their contribution to the 6th Students’ Union.  Wang Chong gave a short remark on behalf of the awardees.
After various work summary reports presented by Scott Yang and officers of the Students’ Union, it was election time. Two rival teams, PROMUSU and Advancing, presented their future plans for JI’s 7th Students’ Union respectively and answered questions and suggestions about more student activities, resource utilization, and exchange programs.  After the vote, Advancing defeated PROMUSU, 139 to 40, and was elected to be the presidium of JI’s 7th Students’ Union.
During the Congress, the representatives were very vocal and offered a lot of sharp observations and constructive suggestions to the JI Administration. Students would like JI to sponsor more student activities and academic exchange programs. Ding Tongquan, one member of Advancing, promised, “We will serve our students and be their voice.“
