The second congress of the JI Graduate Student Union took place on June 23. Prof. Olivier Bauchau, JI’s Associate Dean for Research and Chair of Graduate Committee, Qi Wu, Students’ Affairs Manager, and Wentao Qian, Student Counselor, attended the meeting with representative of the graduate students.

Ma Chu Speaks for the Preparation Committee

Ma Chu and Chen Shuo, Presidium members of the JI’s Graduate Students’ Union, reported on the preparation of the congress and the union’s accomplishments over the past year, including organizing various activities to enrich students’ campus and social life and serving as the bridge between the students and the JI administration. The union has organized a town hall meeting with Dean Ni to help solve graduate students’ academic problems. The six officers of the first JI Graduate Students’ Union were awarded by JI for their outstanding contributions.

 In response to the students’ concerns, Prof. Bauchau presented to explain JI graduate school’s policies, including requirements for thesis, defense, graduation, and internship. He answered students’ questions in great detail, showing JI’s commitment to serving students.

Then, candidates for the new presidium gave campaign speeches about their ideas and plans for running the Graduate Students’ Union. The attending students and officers cast their ballots and elected the three-member presidium, including Minxiao Fu, Xin Miao, and Xiaoli Zhang. They promised to continue the first presidium’s work and would work hard to serve JI’s graduate students even better.
