The winner list of the 2016 University Physics Competition has been announced. Four out of the University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute’s (UM-SJTU JI) six teams won the bronze medals.

The University Physics Competition (UPC) is an international contest for undergraduate students sponsored by the American Physical Society and the American Astronomical Society. The students work in teams of up to three members at their home universities. They spend 48 hours analyzing real-world physics scenarios with their knowledge in physics, writing up a formal solution paper and submitting to the official website on time.

Since 2012, JI students have delivered outstanding performance in the annual competition. Students started preparing several months ahead. They met regularly to learn how to solve open-ended problems, manage time efficiently and write perfect solution papers.
