The University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI, JI hereafter) have opened five online courses of the 2022 spring and summer semesters to a global virtual classroom Initiative.

The Jiao·Tong Global Virtual Classroom Initiative of Shanghai Jiao Tong University was launched in 2021 to revitalize student exchange through the new concept of “global classroom”. The initiative opens courses fully taught in English selected campus-wide to the partner universities and institutions overseas, including member universities in the Pacific Rim University Alliance and overseas partner universities from Japan, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.

The five JI courses selected into the initiative include Methods of Applied Mathematics by Teaching Professor Horst Hohberger, Differential Geometry by Teaching Professor Horst Hohberger in collaboration with Professor Wildrich Tuchman from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Algorithms and Data Structures by Associate Professor Hongyi Xin, VLSI Design by Assistant Professor Xuyang Lu, Introduction to Data Science by Assistant Teaching Professor Ailin Zhang.
