JI professor proposes new acoustic sensors for superior human-machine interaction

The University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI, JI hereafter) Associate Professor Lei Shao and his collaborators have published a research article titled “A wave-confining metasphere beamforming acoustic sensor for superior human-machine voice interaction” in Science Advances,  a peer-reviewed multidisciplinary open-access scientific journal run by the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The article proposes a new acoustic sensor for human-machine interaction (HMI) to distinguish and track multiple sound sources in a noisy background, with an outstanding signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and a superior sensitivity at the same time.

Nineteen international students join JI in fall semester

Sixteen research projects of the University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI, JI hereafter) have won financial support from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC),  according to a recent published announcement on the list of NSFC-sponsored research projects for the year of 2022.

JI international students attend Study Away program in Singapore

Nineteen international students from the University of Michigan – Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI, JI hereafter) have embarked on a one-semester Study Away program in Singapore, thanks to the sponsorship of the SJTU Asia Pacific Graduate Institute (SJTU-APGI) based in the tropical city state.
