Guidelines for Off-Campus Internship Procedures for International Students at Shanghai Jiao Tong University Global College

These guidelines are formulated to further standardize and regulate the off-campus internship activities of international students at SJTU Global College (GC), and to ensure that internship endorsement procedures are conducted in accordance with relevant laws and regulations in an orderly manner.

Notice:

  1. Definition:

Off-campus internship for international students refers to internship activities conducted outside the University in accordance with the academic teaching plan, where no remuneration is involved (except for transportation and meal allowances).

  1. Eligibility:

International students who wish to engage in off-campus internships must meet all the following conditions:

(1) Be enrolled at Shanghai Jiao Tong University;

(2) Hold a study-type residence permit issued by the Exit-Entry Administration Bureau of the Shanghai Public Security Bureau, with an internship annotation;

(3) The internship must not be conducted at more than one enterprise at the same time;

(4) The internship program must be relevant to the student’s academic major or field of study.

  1. Duration:

The internship duration must not exceed twelve months.

  1. Validity and Processing Time:

The certificate issued by the SJTU International Student Center is valid for 30 days, and the entire internship endorsement process normally takes about one month.

It is strongly recommended to submit your application at least one month prior to the intended start date to ensure sufficient processing time.

  1. Application form of International Student Off-Campus Internship Issued by company (A physical, company-sealed version is required)
  2. Application form of International Student Off-Campus Internship Issued by University
  3. SJTU Internal Approval Form for International Students’ Off-Campus Internship (A physical, SJTU GC-sealed version is required)
  4. Internship Registration Form (1)
  5. Internship Registration Form (2)
  6. Resident permit and passport page
  7. Registration form of temporary residence

Note: Exchange students applying for an internship must provide an exchange agreement, and residence permit for international exchange students must generally be valid for at least three months. The internship period may not exceed the duration specified in the exchange agreement.

How to apply:

  1. Submit all required documents to GC officer Mr.Jin at yq.jin@sjtu.edu.cn.
  2. Submit all physical documents to Mrs Zhao at SJTU International Student Center.
  3. Take all SJTU-issued documents to the Exit-Entry Administration Bureau of the Shanghai Public Security Bureau for the final official stamp.

Revocation of Internship:

If any of the following occurs during an international student’s off-campus internship, the University has the right to revoke the internship authorization and take action in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and University rules:

  1. Failure to meet the University’s attendance requirements;
  2. A significant decline in academic performance;
  3. Violation of Chinese laws, regulations, or University discipline;
  4. Any other circumstance deemed unsuitable for continuing the off-campus internship.

  3. Login to the e-government platform of Shanghai Exit-Entry Administration: https://gaj.sh.gov.cn/crj/
  4. Go to the district-level or municipal immigration office to inquire.
