Description:

This course studies advanced theories of digital communications. Major topics include: fading channels, filtered channels and intersymbol interference; capacity and cutoff rate; theory of digital modulation; fundamental limits in modulation; optimum receivers in Gaussian noise; signal space and decision theory, signal design, bandwidth and dimensionality; equalization; spread-spectrum. Information theory and coding theory will be briefly introduced, but details will be taught in Ve550 and Ve650.
