Minor in Entrepreneurship

Current students (joined JI from 2019-2021) can choose either the current plan or new plan. Students entered JI in and after 2022 will use the new plan only.

Current Plan 

JI offers a minor in Entrepreneurship to encourage students to learn practical skills that may help translate innovate ideas into real impact. A minimum of 15 credits of courses are required for the minor, including:

Core (required) Courses (5 credits)

• BUS4200J Business Basics for Entrepreneurs  (3 credits)

• BUS4020J Managing a Business (2 credits)

At least 6 credits of Practicum from the following:

• ME4500J Design and Manufacturing Ⅲ/ ECE4500J Major Design Experience / ENGR4500J Global Multidisciplinary Design Project I  (4 credits), or other MDE courses

• BUS4230J Intrapreneurship (3 credits)

• ECE4411J Mobile App Development for Entrepreneurs (3 credits) 

• ECE4130J Monolithic Amplifier Circuits (4 credits)

• BUS4250J Technology Entrepreneurship (3 credits)

• ECE4410J App Development for Entrepreneurs (4 credits)

At least 3 credits of Elective courses selected from the following list

• ENGR4410J, BUS2030J, BUS2510J, BUS3515J, BUS4210J, BUS4220J, BUS4400J, BUS2080J, BUS4570J, PSY3110J, BUS2551J, BUS2550J, BUS4100J, ECON1011J

• More course may be added to this list with prior approval

Eligibility:

– Sophomore standing and above
– Having declared a major
– In good academic standing

If planned well in advance of the senior year, the program should not add to the credits required for a bachelor’s degree at JI. A student should receive a grade of C or better for all the courses required for the minor. The Minor in Entrepreneurship should be declared before graduation. Transfer credits are acceptable for the Elective courses. No credits may be used to satisfy the requirements of more than one minor. No credits may be double counted for a minor and an undergraduate research certificate.

  • PSY3110J Creativity (3 credits), or BUS4020J Managing a Business (2 credits)

At least 6 credits of Practicum from the following:

  • ME4500J Design and ManufacturingⅢ / ECE4500J Major Design Experience / ENGR4500J Global Multidisciplinary Design Project I  (4 credits), or other Capstone Design or equivalent MDE courses
  • BUS4230J Intrapreneurship (3 credits)
  • BUS4250J Technology Entrepreneurship (3 credits)
  • Extra credits may be counted towards the Elective

Electives to top up total 15 credits:

  • BUS2510J, BUS3515J, ENGR4410J, BUS1020J, BUS2550/BUS2551J.
  • BUS4100J Building Startups from 0 to 1.
  • ECON1011J, etc. from JI
  • Other transfer courses approved by the Director of JI CFE
